Clive Barnes once said that television “is the first truly democratic culture, the first culture available to everyone and entirely governed by what the people want. The most terrifying thing is what people do want.” He was right in so many ways, but keep in mind that television is governed by media moguls, advertisement campaigns, the FCC, FBI, FDA, and FAG—the Film Actors Guild, don’t be a prejudiced fucker. Television is for the people but not really of the people, you know? It is, at best, a representative democracy.

For a direct democracy, you have to look no further than the screen in front of your face and the egalitarian entanglement known as the interwebs. Barnes was right: It’s terrifying what people want. I mean you can literally google anything and come up with hits. Whether you’re looking for nude pictures of Bea Arthur or need a wikianswer on how to remove nails from a toddler’s forehead, it’s all out here. And as terrifying as that is, it’s also glorious. It’s an awfully beautiful democracy and a beautifully awful clusterfuck.

And if you’re reading this, you’re in some small way voting for us.

You know how grateful I am, don’t you?
