Special thanks to XKCD creator Randal Munroe for inspiring this flowchart, and special thanks to the people on his forum that contributed to the ideas here.

These police procedural type shows are mighty formulaic, but I love them probably because of the formula—not despite it. None of these shows deepen my understanding or widen my perspective, but they’re fun. For the forty minutes it takes to watch them, I can believe that all mysteries are solved and all bad guys are caught. And I’m all right with that.
