So, it wasn't all that long ago we did a strip featuring the gender-bending Fabulous Ex-Men, and here we are again getting a little dirty with those lovable Homo Superiors.

I really love the X-Men. Grant Morrison's run may be my favorite comics of all time. Yet, somehow, I'm one of the few people who doesn't think First Class looks amazing. In fact, I think it looks a little dumb. For starts, it features a character from Chuck Austen's godawful mishandling of the comics. But more importantly, it doesn't seem to have a raison d'etre, which is of course French for "Eater of Raisons, a component all mutant movies desperately need.

No, seriously, some movies really seem to come from a creative necessity. Someone felt compelled to write them. These characters or story lines just had to come out. Then the writer had to find a way to produce the film. Other movies seem like they start from producers' desire to make money and they then have to farm out the creative process to writers. That distinction makes all the difference in the world., and X-Men: First Class seems to fall into that second category.

I'd love i

t if they proved me wrong,
