A quick word on fatherhood--I've got a seven month old, which gives me the right to stupidly act like an expert. Fatherhood's an odd thing. I mean, having a kid means you give up a lot of your dreams. I mean that figuratively as well as literally. You see, not only do you not have the time to pursue the things you used to, you also don't have the time to sleep--perchance to dream. And some people will say, "Yes, but look at the payoffs." I don't know. Don't get me wrong, I love my kid and all, but I look at my parents and I'm fairly sure that they've put way more into me than they'll ever get out. And I think that's sort of the point of parenthood. It's not about the payoff. Parents give 'til it's gone. Then they give some more. And there's something beautiful in that.
