Just so we’re clear, the idea behind this strip is not to make light of Anne Frank’s story. This is a condemnation of an entertainment industry that strip-mines our culture so that they can process, pasteurize, and generally bastardize all that we hold dear. How many of cinema’s recent big winners were original? And don’t say Avatar. For the past decade, Hollywood’s been trading in sequels, adaptations, and thievery. Movie goers are now all too familiar with terms like remake, relaunch, reboot, rehash, and regurgitate. My favorite--in that I hate it the most--was in regards to Norton’s Incredible Hulk. When asked how it related to Bana’s flick from five years ealier, someone called it a Requel. Dear lord, I’d say we need redemption, but some producer would probably turn the world on its ear looking for demption, so he could claim it for his own.

Yeah, I’m a little worked up. I’ll tell you what else I’m worked up about: Today’s guest artist! The consummate, consumable, and utterly combustible, Ryan Moffett. He’s got a very cool blog with more of his work right here. We were lucky to grab him when we did, as he’s clearly on the cusp of greatness. I imagine he’ll be taking over art chores on a major marvel book before the year’s up. Below you’ll find a piece he agreed to do for E’s birthday.

Lastly, if you like the strip, feel free to clickity click on the “Share” button at the top and pass it along.

You’re an original, right?
